Pulling off a triple cork 1440 is a significant development considering White had been passed in slopestyle by the likes of riders Mark McMorris, Seb Toots, and Sage Kotsenburg while concentrating on the halfpipe.

Pulling off a triple cork 1440 is a significant development considering White had been passed in slopestyle by the likes of riders Mark McMorris, Seb Toots, and Sage Kotsenburg while concentrating on the halfpipe.
But with slopestyle making its Winter Olympics debut in Sochi in 2014, White is said to be upping his game in that discipline, and pulling off a triple cork will be vital to his being among the favorites.
"Speculation is that Shaun is trying to get to a competitive level in slopestyle again," said Mary Walsh ofSnowboarder magazine.

"In tons of recent major slope competitions, White has pulled out last minute due to things like 'ankle injuries,' causing a fair amount of speculation. So, with Winter X Games in a week, I think people are very interested to see if he competes--which looks like he's planning to do--and what happens, and how he does," Walsh continued.

Just earlier this week, we learned that White would be ditching his skateboard for a while to focus on winning the halfpipe and slopestyle at the Sochi Winter Games. He said he didn't want to risk injury by competing in skateboarding.
As for this week's triple cork 1440, Shaun White has served notice to his peers in slopestyle that he'll be ready to compete.
