Anti-Tesla Hate and Protests
Hundreds of protests at Tesla dealerships and showrooms around the world took place on Saturday, showing a global resistance to the company’s CEO, Elon Musk Tesla , as he continues to get involved in political issues. It feels like a modern-day Luddite movement, one that has caught Democrats with slogans like “Burn Tesla save democracy” in a modern leftist madness that is fermenting violence across the country. The protest organizer, known as “Tesla Takedown,” targeted more than 500 Tesla showrooms worldwide. About half of them were scheduled to be held at Elon Musk Tesla showrooms in the U.S., according to the organizers’ social media posts. Forget about “Fighting climate change by vandalizing a Tesla showroom every now and then.”
Protesters in many states, from Blue Haven California to Red State Florida, were seen holding signs urging passersby to “boycott Tesla” or calling Musk a “fascist.”
Some of the unrest stems from Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration, which has been on a fast track to shrink the size of government by slashing the federal workforce or eliminating entire unnecessary and abusive agencies.
Some of the moves made by DOGE, the White House office leading the cost-cutting efforts, are being challenged in court by left-wing judges.
Patty Hoyt, a resident of Marin County, California, who was protesting at a local Tesla dealership, said she disagreed with the administration’s plan to cut jobs from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Although Hoyt is not a veteran, she said in an interview that she has veteran friends who rely on resources from the VA.
“These are people we have promised,” Hoyt said of the veterans.

Nic Antaya for Business Insider in Michigan., Attendees at the protests in Ann Arbor and Troy leaned mostly to the left of the political spectrum. Some were over 65 and had seen the country through previous periods of turmoil, such as the Vietnam War. However, some described the current political moment as unprecedented.
Patricia Bragg, 76, protests at the Tesla Takedown demonstration in Michigan. “I don’t recognize the country I’ve lived in for over 65 years,” said Debbie Rosenman, head of the Ferndale chapter of Indivisible, a national grassroots organization for progressive causes that mobilized some of the protests. Another protester in Troy told BI: “You know that saying, ‘don’t go softly into the night?’ We’re not going softly into the night.”
The protesters in Michigan were mostly over 65 and leaned to the left of the political spectrum. But the frustrations aren’t just about Musk’s growing influence in American politics. Protests were seen across Europe in France, Scotland, Germany, England and the UK.
During Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January, Musk made a gesture to the audience that was interpreted by many as a Nazi salute. Musk denied that was his intention. The Anti-Defamation League also defended the gesture, saying it was “awkward” but not a Nazi salute. The gesture inevitably struck a nerve with some in Europe, including lawmakers, as the continent has a long, dark history of being under Nazi occupation during World War II.
A protester in France held a sign that read “No Nazi cars.” In London, demonstrators held up a man with a blowpipe depicting Musk’s likeness and the infamous gesture.
Musk has made it clear that his political interests extend beyond the US. Last year, the CEO threw his support behind the AfD, or Alternative for Germany, endorsing the far-right German political party to its millions of followers on Twitter. In February, the AfD came in second place in Germany’s national elections, representing the AfD’s best performance in the party’s history.
After seeing a peak valuation of $1.54 trillion in December, Tesla’s stock has fallen in recent weeks amid weak global sales and growing concerns from investors and Wall Street that Musk is too distracted by his work.
It’s difficult to gauge the extent to which Musk’s politics have affected his EV company. Tesla’s sales in Europe for January and February fell 42.6% compared with the same period last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, selling under 27,000 vehicles. A Tesla spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
Beyond the protests, Tesla dealerships and vehicles have also become recent targets of vandalism and violence, under the slogan:
“Who needs innovation when you have a brick in your hand?”
